Comments From District Sales Managers About Pannar Corn Performance

3B-220 VT3 did very well in customer fields, plots, and trials. In fact, it took second at a F.I.R.S.T. trial up in the Red River Valley. This hybrid also did very well in some NDSU trials. It’s an 86-day corn that performs well pretty much in all soils. It has good drydown, TW, and stalk strength.
3A-830 VT3 is a new hybrid that I think is going to be a stand-out from its testing performance. It had exceptional TWs and drydowns. It looks to be high-yielding for its maturity (83-day) but also has great late-season intactness, which will work well with the way the summers and fall have been playing out.
Through our exceptional breeding and research program, we also have a few 79-day corn products that can help spread out the risk. All in all, we have a complete line-up of corn that is bred for our northern soils and conditions.

In the strips ran in this area, our products performed at the top or in the top half all the time. Pannar showed amazingly good consistency. 4E-705 VT3 is a 94-day corn that has been a solid performer. Plain and simple, it did well—everywhere. With its drydown, solid agronomics, and good yields, it will be up there towards the top in dollars per acre in most plots. While it is an earlier corn, when customers see the yield along with the drydown, it becomes the bookend of their maturities. Overall in my area, I’m seeing seed selections that are averaging about two to three days earlier. This has been a popular number, along with 4E-705, 5A-155 (95-day), and 5B-960.
It’s one of the reasons Pannar is turning heads. We breed and sell to fit this country, with numbers that will work in a grower’s operation. Customers are really looking at maturities. Some companies have pushed their hot numbers, regardless of whether the region will really support that particular maturity. Check out how we’re doing. Use our Web site to look at plot data. The zip code for Morris is 56267. We’ve also got what I call farmer-friendly pricing and the flexibility of Farm Plan™. Not only do we have tremendous products, we have them priced right. We’ve got the performance, the pricing, and a growing presence.

One of the things that stood out this year was how impressive our drydowns were against the competition. We were two and three points dryer in test trials than most of the other corn hybrids we were up against. In a year like the one we just completed, that’s a huge factor. There wasn’t much for mold because of the open husks in the hybrids we had out there. Yields were phenomenal in our 95- to 98-day hybrids.
5D-303 VT3 is tagged as a 98-day, but it dried down right with the 95- to 96-day hybrids. Yields and test weights were above and beyond anything I expected, given the year. 5A-125 is a 95-day powerhouse. It has achieved high yields the past couple of years and just really shines. West of the River, 4D-255 acted a lot like 5D-303: it had super TWs and finished strong at harvest.
I’ve been with Pannar six years now, and with the line-up we now have in place, it’s fun to go against the competition. We turn heads and fill the bins at harvest. We’re not standing still either. We’ll be bringing some experimentals on line that are proving and surpassing all my expectations.

We test against the big dogs these days. When we beat their numbers or are right in there with them, it no longer surprises me. Customers will remark to me that a particular Pannar number did very good. My response has become, “Well, it should—we’re the best out there.”
Our breeding and research program deserves the credit. We’re independent, but totally different from other companies. While our hybrids are tested and developed for a localized three-state region, the global scope of our parent company provides a pipeline of genetic and trait resources.
In the area I cover, 91- to 98-day hybrids work well for customers. Some of the more popular numbers for this area include 4E-705, 5A-125, 5A-155, and 5D-303. That last number is one that has also tested extremely well in F.I.R.S.T. trials. Of course we have other good numbers, too. It just depends on soil types, and particular fields. From racehorse to workhorse, Pannar has the number that will bring the best out of your field potential.
